Michael Drebert: Ember

Our program begins with Michael Drebert, who presents Ember, a hand-drawn poster and a performance on January 15. Drebert’s project draws from the Olympic tradition of passing a flame between torches as it travels from Olympia to the current site of the Games, and from online debates over the best way to preserve a fire’s ember in order to light a new fire in another site. Drebert will light a cigarette in Vancouver and drive down to Seattle, lighting one cigarette from another until he reaches Western Bridge, where he will offer to light others’ cigarettes from his.
