Dawn Cerny: The Irish Wristwatch
February 25 – March 6
Western Bridge announces the fourth exhibition in New Year, a series of brief solo exhibitions of new work. Seattle artist Dawn Cerny’s “The Irish Wristwatch” relates jokes to psychological forms. Tongue twisters like “Irish wristwatch” illustrate an involuntary loss of control-knowing something in your head then watching your mind and mouth fall apart as you try to verbalize the information. Cerny’s recent work has focused on tension in the comedian/audience feedback loop. Over the past months she has spoken with comedians about their construction of material, the experience of performing to an audience, and impromptu material revision. Through action and object, Cerny’s New Year project will attempt to understand something that sits in between the joke and trauma.
