New Year 06: Corin Hewitt

Corin Hewitt
March 25 – April 3

Western Bridge announces the sixth project in New Year, a series of brief solo exhibitions of new work. Corin Hewitt will use the two weeks of his exhibition’s run to make a project using materials from three walls of the New Year gallery to make three videos. Each video will explore aspects of the materiality of the walls: paint, sheetrock, plywood, joint compound, studs, screws. Removing material from one section of one wall at a time, Hewitt will use a large light table to examine the material taken from the wall over a period of several days, using both processes of photography and wall construction. A video camera suspended above the table will record these slow manipulations and feed a live stream to a wall outside the room.

After Hewitt finishes his examination of each wall section, he will bag and seal the wall materials and photographs taken during the process and return them into the hole in the wall. He will then repair the wall using new materials. The video made from his material examination will then be projected on this wall as Hewitt moves on to a new wall section.
