For the seventh installment of New Year, Western Bridge’s series of short-run projects, LA and Berlin-based artist Mungo Thomson presents a new projected video. An animation tracks time via the covers of a weekly magazine, one cover per video frame. As each year passes by in less than two seconds, a succession of images, mostly the faces of newsmakers, rush past, while the design stays mostly constant, shifting more gradually over the decades.
